BBQ Competition at the Smokin in the Wiregrass Festival

“Smokin’ in the Wiregrass” BBQ CompetitionI was just recently contacted about a BBQ Festival being held May 16th & 17th at the National Peanut Festival Fair Grounds in Dothan, Alabama and thought I would share the information since I am planning on going. Hopefully I will get to meet a few of our readers if you decide to come.

The event is sponsored by CenturyTel and the Kiwanis Club of Dothan and benefits the Make-A-Wish foundation. I won’t be competing but I will be enjoying some really great BBQ and taking notes since eventually I will compete.

The festival’s official name is “Smokin’ in the Wiregrass” and there are two different competitions. There is the Professional Division and the Backyard Division — both with trophies and cash prizes. For more information on entry fees, details of each cook’s area, accommodations, ticket prices and vendor information, visit www.tristatebbq.com.

Along with the competition, there will also be entertainment. However the entertainment details were not available on the website at the time of this article.
